Civil Engineer (Geotechnical, Pavement, Highway and Drainage design)
Location: Surrey
Rate: £35.00 to £45.00 per hour, dependent upon experience.
Duration: Min 3 months, possibly ongoing.
Start Date: ASAP as this is an urgent position.

Job Overview & Scope
Working within the multi-disciplinary engineering team that supports our clients International Government & Defence Group. Providing engineering support for numerous ongoing contracts with the UK MOD to meet their requirements on deployed operations, as well as projects and bids for other UK Government Departments, Foreign Governments and Commercial organisations.
Responsibilities
- Provide general civils engineering support to the Government & Defence Group’s Design & Technical Team as required.
- Under supervision of a design lead, provide specific civils and geotech support to the Government & Defence Group’s construction related work, principally but not exclusively in Central Asia and the Middle East. (Note the job is not site based, but office based in the UK).
- As tasked, devise initial concepts, develop detailed design, design integration and validate / review third party designs.
- As required produce detailed specifications and scopes of work and review / report on supplier’s submissions.
- Be prepared to adapt engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to meet unusual Client requirements in untypical environments.
- Provide technical guidance and advice to other elements of the Design & Technical Team, Procurement Team, Project Management Team and Clients as required.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Skills are typically acquired through an undergraduate degree in civil engineering and subsequent professional application and experience
- Requires sufficient professional experience to assure competence as a fully trained professional. Certification as a Licensed/Chartered Professional Engineer is preferred.
- Experience / understanding of geotechnical engineering issues and principles important.
- Experience of pavement / highway and drainage design in connection with industrial areas or airfields also important.
- An ability to apply conventional engineering principles unconventionally would be very useful. To that end experience in the developing world would be desirable.
- Ability to work independently using their own initiative or within a team.
- Competent use of MS Office and it would be beneficial to be competent with design software packages such as AutoCAD.
